Membership Covenant

Introduction

Members of Beaumont Baptist Church seek to faithfully pursue the biblical principles set forth in our church’s covenant. Our covenant doesn’t describe “Level 2” Christianity. Instead, our covenant describes the basics of what it looks like to be a Christian in a church. Therefore, members of BBC commit to these with both joy and seriousness. We don’t expect members to have arrived perfectly at these ideals (none of us have), but we do commit to pursue them together.

Covenant

The following covenant develops in more detail the mission of Beaumont Baptist Church and expresses the spirit of church membership. It will be affirmed by all prospective members and reaffirmed by all members at each annual business meeting.

  1. The gospel of Jesus Christ has restored me to God and given me new life. I am trusting in Christ alone for salvation from my sin. I believe that the local church is central to the advance of the gospel in my life and throughout the world. So I voluntarily, solemnly and joyfully covenant with my fellow believers at Beaumont Baptist Church.

  2. I am being sanctified in the same way | have been justified—by faith in the work of Christ, not by my own works. So I rely on God for grace to pursue the following ideals as a member of Beaumont Baptist Church.

  3. I will live for God's glory, striving to love Him wholeheartedly and to love others as myself. I will pursue a life of holiness, yielding to the work of the Holy Spirit. I will regularly meditate upon Scripture and pray. I will bring up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord such as may be under my care. I will seek the salvation of the unconverted.

  4. I will walk in brotherly love with the members of this church, endeavoring to preserve the unity created by the Spirit. I will be slow to take offense and quick to seek reconciliation. I will hold myself accountable to my brothers and sisters in Christ and will graciously exercise watchfulness toward them. I will cultivate fellowship with them and will help to bear their burdens through prayer and practical assistance.

  5. I will consider Beaumont Baptist Church a priority in my life as an expression of my devotion to Christ, the Head of the Church. I will regularly attend the church’s meetings and will uphold its doctrine, worship and discipline. I will remain teachable before the preaching of God's Word. I will submit to the rightful authority of my church leaders.

  6. I will contribute regularly, generously and cheerfully to the church, supporting its ministries with my money, time and energy. Finally, I will promote the maturity of the church by faithfully using my spiritual gift(s).
